English Blog Contest: a Journey

AEI Vietnam’s English Blog Contest lasted from 1 March until 1 June 2008 targeting Vietnamese students aged between 16-22. The contest aimed to promote English language writing skills amongst Vietnamese youth using an interactive online medium, the website My-eSpace. It also offered practical tips and hints on English learning as well as stories about Australia from the angle of its multi-cultural heritage, nature and people.

Contestants registered accounts online and posted weekly entries relevant to three monthly topics, which reflected their “Live. Learn. Grow” journey. They also voted for their favourite entry once a week. Submitted entries were marked by a keen judging panel which included Dr Robyn Najar (Flinders University), Dr Damien McCoy (University of Queensland), Theseus McLean (University of Danang/University of Queensland ELI in Danang, Vietnam) and Mark Osborne (Education Adelaide).

During a creative multimedia and interactive award ceremony in HCMC in late June, the three winners and the five most voted bloggers received awards and prizes and enjoyed sharing their thoughts with the AEI Counsellor Bettina Cooke and Theseus McLean, a member of the judging panel.

The website is still available for other competitions and publications after the end of the contest.
